NEWS AND EVENTS

REGULAR EVENTS:

  • Meditation Group - every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7pm Abdon Village Hall. Just turn up and give it a try. Free of charge, all welcome. Tea, biscuits and a chat to end the evening.   • UFO (Un Finished Objects) craft morning - every 2nd Saturday each month at Abdon Village Hall 10.30am to 12.30pm. Bring along your unfinished projects. Join us and learn a new craft skill or teach your craft skills to someone else. Please supply your own materials. Please make a donation for refreshments. 
  • Coffee morning - last Saturday each month in Abdon Village Hall 10.30am to 12.30pm (except for December). Join us for coffee, cake and a chat, everyone welcome!
  • Church Services - 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month at St. Margaret's Church, Abdon. See the St. Margaret's Church page for details. Please see the latest Corvedale News or Corvedale Parishes Facebook page for updates.

  • Women's Institute - 2nd Monday of the month at 2pm, Clee St.Margaret Village Hall. 
  • Parish Council meetings - usually the first Thursday in January, May, July and October in Abdon Village Hall. See the Parish Council page for details.

  • St Margaret’s Church, Abdon - DONATIONS for LUDLOW FOOD BANK in the church porch. Any non-perishable food, unopened and in date will be very welcome, for example: tinned foods, long-lasting drinks, food cupboard items. Your donations will a make a difference and help someone. Donations will be taken regularly to the Ludlow Food Bank. THANK YOU.

JUNE TO AUGUST 2025

  • Sunday 1st June - Abdon Wildlife Group, Clee Liberty Common Mountain Pansy Walk. Four years ago we discovered a colony of Mountain Pansies (Viola lutea) close to the top of Clee Burf. Although this species is declining in Shropshire, this was the first time Viola lutea had been recorded at this location, “Once abundant in fields on all the hills in the west of the county and even on lowland heaths, but now it is rare to find more than a couple of dozen plants in the unimproved fields that remain.” (The Flora and Vegetation of Shropshire 2015). We want to see how the colony is doing. Park at, and set out from the Heatham Gate (SO573850) at 10am. Bring a packed lunch. This event will only take place if the weather is kind.

  • Friday 20th June NOTE: THIS IS A CHANGE OF DATE - Abdon Wildlife Group, Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary Walk, Clee Liberty.  A walk up Clee Liberty concentrating on looking for evidence of Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary butterflies and recording the birds using the Common.  Particularly looking for Wheatears.  This will be a walk up to the wet areas in and below the quarry. Meet at Heatham Gate parking area SO572 849 for an 11.30am start.
  • Sunday 22nd June - Abdon Wildlife Group, Dormouse Nestbox Checks. Meet at 10am Powkesmore Holding off the Ditton Priors to Stanton Long road.  Their track entrance is at What3words oasis.purist.dynasties.  Drive up the track to park at the house. NB Dormouse footprint tunnel traps available to borrow. The group's trail camera is also available to borrow if you identify the presence of Dormice.
  • Tuesday 1st July - Patient Participation Group (PPG) meeting. 7 to 8 pm at Ditton Priors Village Hall. We are really pleased that Dr Bassett will be with us, and look forward to hearing from him. The  Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Lisa Davies will be with us to talk about her role and help us understand the work of other healthcare professionals within the team.    There will also be new information and updates about ongoing projects, so a busy meeting – as usual!   • Saturday 5th July - Abdon Wildlife Group, Churchyard Wild Plant Surveys. Clee St. Margaret Church 10am. Bring refreshments. Expect to be finished by lunchtime. There is limited parking, so please car-share if possible.
